German-Chinese Cattle Breeding Project

The Project is part of the German-Chinese Centre for Technology and Innovation in Animal Breeding. The project is aiming to improve the performance, quality and efficiency of milk and beef production in China. Several pilot farms of the three cattle breeds Holstein, Simmental and Brown Swiss in five different provinces have been identified to become the operational partner of the technical assistance programme and to be developed to demonstration farms of German-Chinese Cooperation in cattle breeding.

 

The technical assistance programme for the pilot farms consists of the following components:

  • Provision of cattle semen and improvement of cattle geneticsImprovement of cattle genetics
  • Education and training in forage production, feeding, reproduction and herd management, milking, hygiene, quality management and farm economics
  • Specific consultancies in farm reconstruction and layout planning, fattening production systems, slurry handling and disposal, reduction of environmental impacts

 

The project is supported by the German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) and the four German cattle breeding organisations Bayern-Genetik GmbH, Besamungsverein Neustadt a. d. Aisch e. V. (BVN), German Genetics International GmbH (GGI) and Masterrind GmbH. The main partner on the Chinese side is the Ministry of Agriculture of China. Executing partners on the Chinese side are the National Animal Husbandry Service (NAHS) and the selected pilot farms.
